What most of the governments have failed to realize is that, long gone are the days when kids would sit in a class just to qualify for a white collar job, we need a system that arms its youth with skills to be self reliant and not wait until they are forced by circumstances like overwhelming parental needs, poorly paying jobs and other factors that make grown human beings walk with hands in their pockets.
A system I would recommend most of the African countries is a system that covers modern ways of life like; Real Estate investments, Software developments (this should be introduced earlier like in high schools), internet jobs and so on.
For instance Commercial real estate training would leave every youth thinking of big sum of money to get a life investment in these times we are leaving. Teach kids of developing simple application for phones acquaint them with the environment behind the mouse and the monitor.
As we all know Face book inventor started developing computer games at a tender age below ten years and today his investment can sustain most African governments for years, and as a saying goes, seal a fish while still wet, don’t wait until a kid is 20years to get an introduction to computers, and now you have to teach him to hold the mouse. This is what I call total wastage of human resource.
Computers are here to stay and worse still some applications are yet to be put into use that will heighten the job shortage statistics in the near future, so more youths will end up in drugs and others will kill for a living if this issue of our curriculum is not checked, I call upon all those responsible, to make haste in making our youths realize other means to make a living and not walk with resumes that are so loaded and yet cant secure them a better job.
